Chelsea, Liverpool and Southampton have been dealt a blow in their alleged pursuit of Marcos Rojo after the Sporting Lisbon defender gave the clearest indication yet he is set to join Manchester United, after following players and the club's official account on Instagram.
The London Metro reports how the Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, following a series of impressive performances for his country at the World Cup in Brazil.
According to the Daily Express, the 24-year-old has not only attracted admiring glances from new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, but Jose Mourinho, Brendan Rodgers and Ronald Koeman as well.
Earlier this week Southampton were believed to be leading the race for Rojo's signature after becoming the first club to meet Sporting's £13 million valuation of the versatile star.
However, judging by the player's recent social media activity, it's Manchester United that are closing in on a deal ahead of the new season, after Rojo randomly started following Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Adnan Januzaj on Instagram.
Rojo - who can operate in central defence and as a left wing-back - would be a perfect acquisition for Van Gaal and his new 3-5-2 formation at Old Trafford, with the club in desperate need of reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
Van Gaal needs versatility
The South American could act as cover for £27 million summer signing Luke Shaw on the left flank, as well as providing competition for the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans in the last line of defence.
Sporting have already confirmed they've received a host of offers for Rojo, who could be about to put pen to paper in Manchester after prospective deals for Thomas Vermaelen and Mats Hummels fell through.
