Manchester United and Liverpool have both been boosted in their respective pursuits of Marseille star Andre Ayew, after it was revealed that the player’s new manager, Marcelo Bielsa, is openly looking to sell.
Reports in French newspaper Le 10 Sport today claim that Bielsa is ready to undertake a restructuring of the club he has recently taken charge of, and Ayew finds himself on a list of names set to be flogged to raise money. The Ghana international has for some time now been linked with an exit, and in the past confirmed that he would love to move to the Premier League.
Premier League interest
On top of that it would seem that the 24-year-old has suitors in Liverpool and United, with both sides looking to bolster their squads ahead of important campaigns. Brendan Rodgers knows that he must improve his strength in depth, whilst maintaining a high level of quality ahead of the club’s Champions League venture, whilst Louis van Gaal has an unenviable task on his hands of restoring United to their former glory.
Ayew at Marseille
Currently on £60,000-a-week in Ligue 1, Ayew himself is said to be desperate to move to further his own ambitions. The attacking midfielder was an impressive performer for Ghana during the World Cup in Brazil, but is said to have been left disappointed with Marseille’s sixth placed finish in France’s elite division last term.
As such it would appear that a change of scenery would suit all parties involved, though whether or not it will be either United or Liverpool who get him remains to be seen. The Red Devils have plenty of money to their name but aren’t crying out for a player in Ayew’s position, whilst Liverpool have recently added Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic to their roster.
