Choosing a leader on the pitch who will inspire others whilst also taking the weight of expectation firmly on his shoulders is never an easy task.

Making the wrong choice of captain can cripple a team, and it's usually a decision that takes an awful lot of consideration from managers. That's why Louis van Gaal has yet to announce who will be taking Manchester United forward following Nemanja Vidic's retirement, and why Arsene Wenger most probably thought a good deal before giving his armband to Mikel Arteta. 

But, whilst the topic of big club captaincies remains very much a hot trend, we thought we'd go one step further down the line and predict which individuals will be in line to get their paws on the captaincies of their respective teams once the current holders bow out.
