LeBron James is about to get a shiny new All-Star teammate in Cleveland. Assuming the NBA don't block the Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first rounder, the Cavaliers will boast the best team in the Eastern Conference. And James himself has admitted that he can't wait to get going with the former UCLA big man.
Lebron and Love have been teammates before, the two played together for Team USA in the past, and one can assume that it is from that time spent together why James was so adamant in getting the former Minnesota Timberwolves star to Ohio.
According to the AP (from CSNNE.com), an incredibly enthusiastic LeBron James talked about what Love brings to the court and why he is so excited for the upcoming season and beyond that.
High IQ, Great Piece
“I’m going to be very excited to have him,” James said. “I don’t really care about the 26 (points) and 12 (rebounds). I care about the basketball IQ. His basketball IQ is very, very high. I had an opportunity to spend 32 days with him on the 2012 Olympic team. It’s funny. I always told Kevin Love, `You’re very good, man.’ He always thought I was blowing smoke.
James even went as far as to accredit Love with being one of the major players as USA won the gold medal in London two years ago.
“I always told him he was going to be a reason why we won the gold medal, and he played a huge role for us. So I’m looking forward to it. He’s a great piece.”
As previously mentioned, the NBA could end up vetoing the trade if they feel an agreement is already in place for Love to opt out of his deal in free agency next year and sign a pre-planned contract with the Cavs.
It is also possible, because the trade hasn't officially gone through yet thanks to Wiggins' rookie deal being signed less than 30 days ago, that James' remarks could well be seen as tapping up. It's unlikely, but you never know in professional sport.
