Drake had an OVO concert in Toronto recently and the hip hop star wanted to impress Kevin Durant, who was in attendance. The singer did something however that has now landed his team, the Toronto Raptors, in trouble with the NBA.
Whilst it may have seemed harmless at the time, the rapper wanted Durant to feel loved in Canada so he asked the crowd to let him know what it sound like if he was a member of the Toronto Raptors.
The decision to do that has cost the Raptors though. Drake - who is RTZ's 'Global Ambassador' - has been accused of tampering with the player and the franchise that he represents has been fined $25,000 by the NBA.
"Hearing Raptors fined $25,000 for comments Drake made at a concert about Kevin Durant that were seen as violation of anti-tampering rules" tweeted Marc Stein of ESPN earlier.
The fine of that amount isn't going to damage the franchise in any way, but it does let Drake know that maybe he can't go out courting NBA players and trying to sweet talk them into moving to the Great White North anymore. At least not while he is associated with the team anyway.
Would RTZ mind?
It makes you wonder if Toronto mind Drake doing this sort of thing or not? Of course no-one really wants to get on the bad side of the governing body, but a guy with an appeal like Drake can do a hell of a lot for a team like the Raptors.
If the fine were to be doubled i see it being a big problem, but if the team only has to pay out 25 grand every time Drizzy does this - and on the chance it actually gets a player to move to the Air Canada Center - then that has to be considered money well spent.
