Arsenal duo Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell are the top transfer targets of Turkish giants Galatasaray, who value the pair of World Cup stars at a combined £28m and have flown to North London in an effort to push forward a stunning double summer swoop.
That is according to the Express, who believe Galatasaray are increasingly confident they will be able to land Campbell and are also hoping to negotiate with the Gunners to lower their lofty £20m asking price for Podolski.
Too many cooks?
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was positively glowing when asked about his attacking options following Sunday's 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield, but it remains to be seen if they are all still at the Emirates when the transfer window finally slams shut.
Wenger has Olivier Giroud, Yaya Sanogo as his main central strike stars and more versatile options in the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Campbell, Podolski, but it will be almost impossible to keep them all happy and playing regularly over the course of the season.
Campbell has returned to Arsenal this summer to prove his worth after three seasons on loan, but Gala believe questions marks over his role will allow them to make the Costa Rica star their new leading centre-forward.
Could Campbell move on?
The 22-year-old was hugely impressive in his bow at the Emirates Cup against Benfica in pre-season, scoring a clever volley and proving a constant menace in a 5-1 victory for the Gunners.
Campbell was back on the bench at Wembley last Sunday though and only featured in the final five minutes.
Gala boss Cesare Prandelli is prepared to offer Campbell assurances over a regular starting spot, with Wenger facing a huge fight to keep the pacy forward happy and part of his long-term plans.
Poldi's future also uncertain
Prandelli also likes World Cup winner Podolski and would love to bring the clinical finisher to Istanbul, but is not prepared to break Gala's £16.5m transfer record or match his £100,000-a-week Arsenal salary to get the deal done.
Podolski is a proven goalscorer but has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot across two seasons at the Emirates, with Santi Cazorla's trickery and work-rate often preferred on the left flank.
The 29-year-old offers a far more direct threat and Wenger wants him to stay and fight for his place this season, although will reluctantly sell if he receives a formal £20m offer for a player with less than two years left on his current contract.
Gala are now hoping to hold a meeting with Arsenal to establish whether either Campbell or Podolski are available in the next 24 hours, which gives Wenger two big decisions to make before the Premier League campaign gets underway.
