Fiorentina wait for Barcelona's to launch Juan Cuadrado bid

Published 13 Comments

Fiorentina will not agree a deal with Manchester United for Juan Cuadrado until they hear from Barcelona, reports Sport.

The Viola are expecting to hear from Nou Camp officials in the coming days. Barcelona are reportedly putting together a financial package that will prove acceptable to the Serie A outfit, and they are ready to hold off an agreement with Manchester United to hear it.

Manchester United bid

It means that Fiorentina will put Manchester United's €40 million bid to one side, forcing Louis van Gaal to wait for Barcelona to make their own proposal. It is a major blow for Manchester United, who looked to have won the race for the 25-year-old after agreeing terms in principle.

Cuadrado's agent was reportedly in Manchester earlier this week to thrash out the terms on a €4 million-a-year deal plus incentives and bonuses for individual and team success. There is now a growing feeling that Barcelona will win the race..

La Liga preference

Cuadrado is reported to prefer a move to La Liga, with the chance to play with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta too irresistible to turn down. Barcelona are also going to promise Cuadrado a place in the first team, replacing Dani Alves, who is likely to depart.

The player has even gone as far as to tell friends that he wants to seize the opportunity to carve out a life for himself in Catalunya. With Barcelona rebuilding under Luis Enrique, the Catalan club are an attractive proposition for up-and-coming talent.

Wing worries for Van Gaal

Losing out on Cuadrado could have devastating effects on Van Gaal's plans for Manchester United. The Dutchman has already missed out on top defensive target Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal earlier this summer.

Van Gaal is trying to implement a 3-5-2 formation at Old Trafford and currently has just Antonio Valencia and Rafael to call upon for the right-wing-back role. The latter has failed to impress thus far and is likely to leave, giving Van Gaal just one option in Valencia.

Cuadrado was the perfect solution to the problem but seeing him in a Manchester United shirt is looking like a pipedream. Fiorentina don't want to sell to Manchester United and Cuadrado does not want to join. Failure is looking a bit inevitable.
