Carmelo Anthony has seemingly followed in the footsteps of LeBron James by putting in some real graft this off-season and trimming down for the upcoming NBA campaign.
With the NBA schedule set to be announced and only seven weeks remaining before training camp, stars of the league everywhere are conditioning their bodies and getting into top shape.
Melo posted a picture to his official Instagram, showing off his new sleeker physique.
Anthony who has often been criticised for his conditioning throughout his 12 years in the league has attempted to eradicate those claims, however one can't help but comment on the timing of his transformation, only shortly after LeBron James did the very same.
Similar to LeBron
Both superstars were far from unfit and were two of the most physically marvelling athletes the league has to offer, but both seem to have the intention of preserving and improving their bodies to reach the next level of their respective games.
James has shed some weight in order for him to gain quickness and deter much of the battering he dealt with last season, it didn't take long before fellow 2003 NBA draftee Anthony followed suit.
Anthony's nearest comparison throughout his career has always been to LeBron, the two individuals entering the league through the same draft has lend itself to the easy comparisons and it has always been the Knicks superstar's biggest criticism that he isn't LeBron.
Anthony and the Knicks
Now with a new era under Team President Phil Jackson in New York, Anthony has dedicated his future to the franchise with the goal of winning a championship with the Knicks organisation.
He has already taken steps to ensure his seriousness about the Knicks aspirations, slimming down means that the small forward is essentially in the best condition of his life, hopefully setting him up for his best season in the NBA.
Described as a bulldog in the paint, Melo used his size complimented by his skill to overpower opponents in the NBA and it can seem a risky tactic to take away some of the bulk that made him such a difficult cover for shorter small forwards.
However the changes made to his body show a positive mindset for Anthony and under the leadership of new head coach Derek Fisher, Melo will join his team in training camp soon in order to start the long journey towards competing for an NBA title.
