Manchester United have today announced that new signing Luke Shaw will be sidelined for the first four weeks of the new season.
The left back turned left wing back in Louis Van Gaal’s new 3-5-2 formation has been under scrutiny from his new boss because of his poor fitness levels for the intensity required at the level the ex-Netherlands boss demands.
The injury sees a further setback for the recently capped 19-year-old, who had to train on his own in order to improve his fitness.
England’s most successful club confirmed their new number three would be out until mid-September with a hamstring injury on their website.
Shaw has had a rough start at United, with Van Gaal changing his position and his fitness scandal, and with a fee of £27 million and heaps of expectation, Old Trafford hasn’t been the kindest place for him to settle in.
The United boss now has a selection headache, as he chooses who to replace Shaw at left back, although he was left out completely of their friendly win over Valencia last night, which could suggest LVG has it planned out who can play there.
