Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose, speaking at a promotional event for his latest 'D Rose 5s' Adidas sneakers, has revealed his desire to collaborate with Kanye West on a future design.
Mixing music with basketball
"It was great hearing that they signed him (Kanye West) because him, everything he's doing, him being an icon, his music, him loving fasion and signing with Adidas is just a huge step for us, man," explained Rose via Slam Magazine.
"I hope I have time to colab with him, that would be pretty cool... I'd probably have to wait on that and get the okay from Adidas after his show comes out," the injury plagued former NBA MVP continued.
Rose is amongst a host of big name NBA players with their own signature brand of basketball shoes but should his dream collaboration with the A-list rapper ever materialize it would certainly give him an edge on the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant.
Kanye West is set to release his own Adidas shoes in the near future, his first since moving across from brand rivals Nike at the tail end of 2013, and considering his eccentric, at times controversial, demeanour I am sure they will have their own unique style.
The D Rose 5s meanwhile, whilst embracing their own fashion angle, are in Derrick Rose's own words designed with the basketball court in mind.
A collaboration between the pair therefore has the potential to create something truly memorable (or truly awful depending on your tastes).
Whether anyone would wear them is another question of course but that is unlikely to stop the marketing departments considering the star potential the duo can offer.
Derrick Rose's basketball comeback
Rose may have one eye on building a shoe empire to rival that of the greats but his 14-year $260 million contract with Adidas is not his main focus at present.
After two seasons revenged by injury the 2011 NBA MVP has barely played more games of basketball than his future colab partner Kanye West. On the comeback trail from his latest knee injury however, Rose is hoping to mark his return this year with an impressive summer in the jersey of Team USA.
Rose is all but certain to feature for the US in this summer's FIBA World Cup after proving his fitness in recent weeks and Chicago Bulls fans will be desperate to see their star man back out on the hardwood in Chicago when the 2014-15 NBA season gets underway this fall.
