David Villa wants to bring his European success over to MLS when he finally makes his debut for New York City FC in 2015.
The former Barcelona superstar striker has been in the New York City area of late, and talking at a youth event in the Big Apple, David Villa spoke about wanting to succeed in the next chapter of his glorious career.
Some say MLS is just a retirement home for some of the top stars in Europe who have decided to step down from their thrones. But that's not the way that David Villa sees MLS, and he admitted that he can't wait to get started with new MLS venture, New York City FC.
"I've had a very successful career in Europe and have gotten to win all of the important titles over there," Villa told New York Daily News.
"I was given the opportunity to accept other projects that I wasn't used to, and why not? It's a very important goal, to bring my style of soccer that has been successful in Europe to another continent, America, in MLS, and have many achievements here.
It's clear that Villa is not just in New York for the money, it really does mean something to Spain's all-time leading goalscorer.
Villa received a massive warm reception at his welcoming this month with the Spaniard greeted by press and local Bronx kids, as the picture above shows. And the former Athletico Madrid and Barcelona star says he was honored to become New York City FC's first ever player.
"A great club like New York City, to be its first player in a growing league like MLS, where it's very competitive, it had all the conditions for me to come here," Villa added.
Villa's supremacy will live on
David Villa is one of the most successful strikers of his generation. While playing for Sporting Gijon, Real Zaragoza, Valencia and Barcelona, Villa managed to scored over 20 goals in all competitions for ten consecutive seasons.
Incredible stats that have only been tempered by injuries in the last three years. But last season he still managed 15 goals in all competitions for Athletico Madrid, who won the Spanish title and finished runners-up in the Champions League.
Once in Major League Soccer, expect David Villa to continue his prolific scoring power as he fires New York City FC to MLS glory one day.
