Liverpool and Arsenal risk missing out on Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus with The Metro reporting that Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal to bring him to La Liga.
The report has suggested that the Premier League duo will have to act quickly in order to tempt the German star to the Premier League ahead of the 2014/15 season.
It's not surprising that a number of teams have been credited with interest in the German playmaker in recent time, with the player having proved his credentials at Dortmund over the last few years.
And now it appears that Atletico are in the driving seat to bring the player to La Liga, with the same report suggesting that the club have made a bid in the region of £21.6million for the player's services. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Dortmund will accept the bid, with it being suggested that the two clubs are currently in negotiations.
Dortmund seem likely to let the player leave in this transfer window, however, as Reus' buyout clause changes to £19.7m in the summer of 2015. It remains to be seen as to whether the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal step up their interest in the playmaker, but they will have to move fast in order to beat Atletico to his signature.
Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping that Brendan Rodgers lands a marquee name in this window, with the club having already spent big throughout the summer. The Reds already have the likes of Philippe Coutinho in the playmaker roll, but could find a place out-wide for Rues if they were to land him.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have an array of talent in their forward line, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Co. already at the club. Gunners fans may be hoping the club land an out-and-out striker, but Reus would only improve them further as they look to make a title challenge for the up coming season.
Both sides will be hoping to claim three points this weekend, with Rodgers' side set to take on Southampton at Anfield and Arsenal set for an all-London clash with Crystal Palace at the Emirates.
