Adrian Neville defends his championship on NXT

This week on NXT, the tournament to determine the number one contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championships continued with The Vaudevillians in action as well as Tyler Breeze finally getting his shot at the NXT Championship in the main event.

Last week we saw the opening two matches of the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament, where Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady as well as Sami Zayn and Adam Rose moved one step closer to challenging the champions The Ascension at NXT Takeover II.

We also saw CJ Parker defeat Xavier Woods whilst Bayley defeated Eva Marie, this week two more tag team matches took place as Bull Dempsey and Mojo Rawley attempted to pick up another win and advance in the tournament.

We already know who the winners of the tournament are, the Divas Championship match as well as the main event for NXT Takeover II will be. This is because NXT is always pre-taped weeks in advance, however no spoilers for future shows or events will be posted until the event itself takes place.

This week kicked off with a reminder that Tyler Breeze would be challenging Adrian Neville for the NXT Championship before the first match gets underway with Mojo Rawley teaming up with Bull Dempsey to take on the entertaining Vaudevillians.

Match One (NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament): Mojo Rawley and Bull Dempsey vs. The Vaudevillians

The crowd are still loving The Vaudevillians which is fantastic as they are performing really well as a tag team and their chemistry is spot on inside and outside of the ring. A decent opening match and it was clear the makeshift team of Rawley and Dempsey wouldn’t be working out, Aiden English hit a middle rope Swanton Bomb on Rawley for the victory as they advance to the next round.

Result: The Vaudevillians defeat Mojo Rawley and Bull Dempsey

After the match Bull Dempsey looks genuinely disgusted with Mojo Rawley, as he then begins to issue a beat down on Rawley for costing him the chance at capturing gold. He is about to leave as the fans chant ‘Thank you Bull’, before coming back to the ring and attacking Mojo Rawley some more.

Backstage, Bayley is warming up for her number one contenders match until Sasha Banks interrupts her and tells her that Bayley won’t be competing for the title as Banks will beat her tonight, Bayley tells Sasha Banks that she won’t be getting a hug after their match.

Match Two (Number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship): Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

This divas match was a much better match than last week’s bout between Eva Marie and Bayley. Some good stuff from both women in the ring with some fast, back and forth action and a couple of near falls. Sasha looked to have the match won when she applied a crossface, only for Bayley to roll over on top of Sasha Banks to pick up the win, she will take on Charlotte for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover II.

Result: Bayley defeats Sasha Banks.

Match Three (NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament): Kalisto and Sin Cara vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy

It’s safe to say this match was very predictable, there’s no way Murphy and Blake were going to advance especially when Kalisto is over with the fans. The match itself was quite short and pretty much a squash match but it still allowed us to see just how well Sin Cara and Kalisto work together, Kalisto picked up the win for his team.

Result: Kalisto and Sin Cara defeat Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy

Before the main event can begin The Legionnaires are backstage and talk about how they’re not happy with the fact that Enzo Amore and Big Cass have made it to the finals of the NXT Tag Team Championship tournament; before speaking to one another in French and leaving the interview area.

Main Event (NXT Championship): Adrian Neville © vs. Tyler Breeze

Tyler Breeze defeated Sami Zayn around three months ago at NXT Takeover to become the number one contender and he finally invoked his title opportunity against Neville. As expected a highly entertaining match and the fans were into it from beginning to end, Tyson Kidd also came out to the commentary table to watch the match.

Tyler Breeze did really well to keep up with the impressive champion and looked to have him in trouble a number of times as well. Adrian Neville hit a huge super kick to Breeze in the corner and then followed it up with the Red Arrow and got the cover, only for Tyson Kidd to break it up and get Breeze disqualified as Neville retained his title.

Result: Adrian Neville defeats Tyler Breeze – Still NXT Champion

Tyler Breeze attacked Kidd as he cost him a victory, but the two then teamed up and took out Adrian Neville, only for Sami Zayn to rush down to the ring and make the save to end the show.
