Cleveland Cavaliers have gone from one of the least talked about teams in the NBA to the hottest topic in basketball.
That's what a summer of being linked to and eventually getting LeBron James will do.
And even though news of LeBron James' return to Cleveland has dropped off recently, there has been plenty of Cavs news floating that has made even LA Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant become animated.
LeBron's return to the Cavs is not just as simple as him slotting in at his old franchise, it's like a huge domino falling and knocking everything else into place.
Those other dominoes include Kevin Love and Andrew Wiggins, and the trade agreement between the Cavs and Timberwolves will see Love in Cleveland and Wiggins shipped off to Minnesota.
And this piece of news is what has really angered Kobe Bryant to the point of coming out and voicing his opinion.
Let's remember that Andrew Wiggins was the Cleveland Cavaliers third first overall NBA Draft pick in the last four years, but the talented 19-year-old will be let go by the Cavs for the bigger shorter gain that NBA superstar Kevin Love will bring.
This is a similar situation to what Kobe Bryant went through when he was traded from the Charlotte Hornets after he was drafted 13th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft.
Kobe Bryant's view
And five-time NBA champion Lakers legend believes that just like the Hornets 18 years ago, the Cavaliers are making an equally terrible mistake by letting Wiggins go.
When asked about the Cavs decision, Kobe gave his brutal assessment, according to reports, that “Cleveland is making the same mistake that Charlotte made with me."
You have to admit that this is quite an explosive statement by Kobe Bryant, who is still such a respected competitor in the NBA for the Lakers.
- Kevin Love's monster trade to be facilitated by multiple NBA teams
- Andrew Wiggins shocking statement highlights Cavaliers' mistreatment
- LeBron James' latest meetings confirm Andrew Wiggins departure
Kobe respects Wiggins
There are two big things to take out of this statement. One is that Cleveland is making a big mistake, as we've alluded to. But the second thing is more importantly Kobe Bryant hinting that he thinks that Andrew Wiggins will be a superstar in the NBA. To compare the situation to his own suggests that Kobe believes Andrew Wiggins has considerable talent.
This is quite interesting because not everybody thinks he will be a success in the NBA. Wiggins has an immense array of athletic abilities, but certain parts of the media question his feel for the game. Whatever happens, we know Kobe will back him more than he will the Cavs.
