Franz Beckenbauer has backed Marco Reus to secure a move away from Borussia Dortmund next summer and believes Manchester United is a likely destination.
The potent forward has been linked with a move away from the Westfalenhallen all summer despite missing the World Cup with a serious ankle injury. Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked with a move while Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the player.
Dortmund exit beckons
For Germany legend Beckenbauer, an exit from Borussia Dortmund in 2015 seems certain. His release clause, believed to be valued at around £20 million when it becomes active next summer, makes it inevitable.
Beckenbauer thinks when a top club like Bayern Munich or Manchester United come in for him, the player should leave.
He told Bild: "Yes, I can imagine him in Munich. If you can get a player of this class, you have to try. I can understand that those at Dortmund don't like discussion about Reus, but the sum of the exit clause was no great mystery.
"I'm sure that if, in 2015, Reus doesn't move to Bayern, he will probably go to another top international club like Real Madrid or Manchester United."
Premier League interest
Interest from Old Trafford would hardly be a surprise. Louis van Gaal has been trying to secure the signature of a winger all summer and has been linked with the likes of Angel di Maria and Juan Cuadrado in recent weeks.
With his release clause set to activate next summer, Manchester United will have to qualify for the Champions League if they are to beat the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to his signature.
Likewise, Arsenal and Liverpool are likely to come in for the winger after reportedly showing an interest in the player this summer.
Arsenal were reported to have a deal on the verge of completion before his injury. Arsene Wenger went on to sign Alexis Sanchez instead.
Reus was also thought to be one of several major players on Brendan Rodgers's short list. Rodgers had funds available after the departure of Luis Suarez, but no move has materialised.
No matter who in the Premier League becomes interested, Bayern Munich will always be favourite to seal a Borussia Dortmund player. Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have both made the switch to the Allianz Arena in recent years and Reus would be tempted to follow suit.
