Randy Couture could face Fedor Emelianenko

Metamoris could be set to host another blockbuster event after UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture suggested he would be down to grapple with MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.

Couture and Emelianenko almost rumbled in the cage back in 2008 when the former tried to 'retire' from the UFC so that he could leave the promotion and fight Emelianenko.

Unfortunately, UFC lawyers blocked that move at the time but now it seems the two could lock up six years later, at Metamoris - the grappling only promotion.

Metamoris Legends division?

Metamoris rose to prominence recently in the martial arts world after it was announced that the recently retired/suspended Chael Sonnen would be competing at their Metamoris 4 event.

At one point the Nevada State Athletic Commission looked to try and ban Sonnen from competing and Sonnen even went as far as to ask Couture to fill in for him, before being given the all-clear to perform.

Now though, it has Couture thinking of a return and when asked he said a grapple match with Emelianenko has his interest.

"That would be interesting and certainly given the time to prepare and get back up into good, solid grappling and wrestling shape, that would be a lot of fun and I think, you know. I'm not sure how active Fedor is at this stage, you know him being retired as well, but I'm certainly no opposed to an idea like that." Couture told Submission Radio.

'The Kingpin' demands too much?

The only blockade for the dream match would be Emelianenko's huge pay demands, something that forced the UFC out of negotiations with the heavyweight star when Brock Lesnar was champion and everyone was clamouring for the match.

The most likely solution is that they heavily promote or even cost host the event with M1 Global, the Russian MMA company that is part owned by Emelianenko.

If not, then it's going to cost Metamoris a lot of money, perhaps more than they can afford and although it would be a sure fire hit and would be a fantastic chance to expand internationally when such a young promotion - it may be just too much.

Only time will tell what happens but if 'The Kingpin' Emelianenko can be enticed for a return then a grapple match with 'The Natural' will be perhaps one of the top three possible fights for him.
