Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering bringing Barcelona midfielder Alex Song back to the Emirates, according to The Daily Mail.
The report has suggested that the Gunners boss, who has already landed Alexis Sanchez from the Catalans in this transfer window, could now turn his attentions to Song as he looks to improve his midfield options at the club.
The Gunners have been on the lookout for a defensive-midfielder throughout this summer's transfer window, and it now appears that Wenger could be reunited with Song before the start of next month.
Arsenal appear to be in need in the middle of the park, despite the likes of Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Mathieu Flamini, Aaron Ramsey and Co. plying their trade in north London. Song, then, could represent a key signing for the Gunners boss as he goes about increasing his options.
Wenger's side will be desperate to improve upon their 2013/14 campaign after they won the FA Cup. The north London outfit will be hoping to maintain a serious title challenge this term, whilst also improving in the Champions League. The Gunners can take a huge step into the group stages of the competition with a victory against Besiktas tonight.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Gunners can land Song this summer, with a number of other clubs interested in the player's services. Arsenal's Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United both appear to be in the running for Song, whilst Italian giants AC Milan have also been credited with interest.
Manchester United are certainly in need of improvement in the middle of the park, as the likes of Darren Fletcher, Marouane Fellaini and Co. have all struggled for form and consistency in recent time.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have an array of talent in the centre of midfield, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Co. plying their trade at Stamford Bridge, but the addition of Song could increase their options further.
With the player potentially moving on a loan deal this summer, he would certainly prove a coup for some of the elite Premier League clubs.
