In-demand Roma Centre-back Mehdi Benatia missed training today, in a move that will add fuel to the fire that he will be on his way to the Premier League sooner rather than later, reports the Daily Star.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Moroccan defender, who impressed in the heart of the Roma defence last season.

With the seemingly imminent arrival of Marcus Rojo at Old Trafford, it appears that Chelsea would be the likely destination, should he come to the Premier League.

On his way?

When a player doesn't train, it often means that a transfer is forthcoming.

Roma admitted that he didn't train, and claimed that the 27-year-old 'worked out in the gym and had physiotherapy' alongside other players.

However, the journalist who broke the news, revealed that Benatia was the only player present who wasn't carrying a knock.

With a £30 million transfer to either Chelsea, Manchester United or Bayern Munich looming, it appears Roma would be reluctant to risk injury with any full contact training.

Verdict

In an ever changing market, Benatia is now a very short price to join Bayern Munich, with some bookmakers as short as 1/4.

However, it is rumoured today that Bayern Munich have withdrawn from the race to sign the defender which would blow open the door for many Premier League clubs.

Roma have not given up hope of hanging onto the defender either, so expect this saga to run on for a little while yet!
