Chelsea could land Roma defender Mehdi Benatia in this transfer window, with Manchester United closing in on Sporting Lisbon star Marcos Rojo.
This has been reported by The Daily Star, who have suggested that the in demand Moroccan international could now make a move to Stamford Bridge, despite United having previously been in pole position to bring him to the Premier League.
As well as United and Chelsea, German giants Bayern Munich have also been credited with interest in the highly rated defender throughout the course of this transfer window. Rated at around £30 million, Benatia would certainly improve the Premier League's elite clubs as they go in search of glory in the 2014/15 season.
For now though, there are uncertainties over the player's fitness, with the same report suggesting that the player didn't train yesterday. It has been suggested, however, that Roma don't want to risk any potential injury, with a move likely before the close of the window.
Jose Mourinho is certainly putting together a fine squad at Stamford Bridge, but it appears that the Blues boss is ready to strengthen his side even further in the coming weeks.
Having already secured the services of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Co. it appears that the 'Special One' could splash the cash once again on improving his side. Mourinho, of course, lost flamboyant Brazilian defender David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain earlier on in this transfer window, but still has the likes of John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma competing for first team places.
Chelsea fans will certainly be excited by the team Mourinho is putting together after they watched the Blues secure three points in their opening Premier League fixture against Burnley last night.
United still in need?
Manchester United, however, are in desperate need of improving their back-line. Fans of the Red Devils will be hoping that as well as Rojo, the club further invest in their defence before the close of the transfer window.
Having lost the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Co. United have been left with Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Tyler Blackett competing for first-team places.
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United step up their interest in Benatia, but for now it appears that Chelsea are in pole position to bring him to England's elite division.
