Marcos Rojo has flown into Manchester on a private jet ahead of his £16m move to Manchester United.
The Argentine international posted a photo to Instagram on board the private jet last night, with the caption 'con mi amigo Carlos'. Last night Manchester United confirmed the deal to bring Rojo to Old Trafford, with United winger Nani heading in the other direction.
Rojo has now been pictured in Manchester ahead of the medical. The player must pass the medical and agree personal terms with United officials but it's expected to be a formality.
Louis Van Gaal has identified the left-footed Rojo as the ideal defender to plug into his three-at-the-back 3-5-2 formation. Tyler Blackett, the academy prospect, played the position against Swansea in the 2-1 opening day Premier League defeat.
The versatile Rojo can play either centre-back or left-back, and featured heavily for Argentina as they made it to the World Cup final this summer. He becomes United's third major summer signing, following Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw to the club.
As part of the deal Nani returns to his former club Sporting on a season-long loan. He could be the first of several fringe United players to leave before the end of the transfer window.
Debut this weekend
Rojo could make his debut against Sunderland this Sunday, as Van Gaal is without Jonny Evans for the foreseeable future. Luke Shaw is still out for several weeks after injuring his hamstring in preseason.
It's finally a piece of good news for United fans in the transfer market, after another summer of failed pursuits. There's still a chance Ed Woodward lands a top target before September 2nd, with Arturo Vidal and Angel Di Maria potential incomings.
But so far they've come up empty-handed again.
