The 'Ice Bucket' challenge went viral among the world's population this summer, particularly among celebrities and sports stars.

The challenge involves dumping a massive bucket of ice and water over your head, and other versions involve sitting in an ice bath for a minute or two.

You get to nominate two or three people to complete the challenge within the next 24 hours, and many people donate money to charity after completing the challenge.

Lionel Messi has followed Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique, who recently completed the Ice Bucket challenge with celebrity partner Shakira. 

Messi will pair up with Neymar and new team-mate Luis Suarez this season, with Pedro and Afellay also available.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will all be fighting for the La Liga title, with the latter two recently playing out a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, a game which involved new 'Galactico' signing James Rodriguez score his first goal for the club via a deflection.

Atletico Madrid will be pleased after their late equaliser, securing the draw and a vital away goal. Even without Diego Costa, Atletico still look like they can compete with the very best.

Nonetheless, Messi nominated international team-mates Sergio Agüero and Eziquiel Lavezzi.
