Liverpool have admitted defeat with their attempts to land either Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani, and will instead turn their attention back to signing Samuel Eto'o according to reports.

The Reds are believed to be looking for a striker to fill the void left behind by Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona earlier this summer, and have reportedly been looking at both Falcao and Cavani.

The former seems destined to join Real Madrid however, while the latter is expected to stay put at Paris Saint-Germain. With both targets off the agenda, Liverpool are said to be looking at other alternatives, and once again Eto'o's name has cropped up.

The Anfield based club held talks with the striker, who spent last season with Chelsea before being released, which broke down over his wage demands. However the Mirror say that the deal could be back on, and the 33-year-old could be plying his trade on Merseyside this season.
