As reported by the Daily Express, Ronaldo has made a desperate plea to the Real Madrid chief to persuade him to reject all offers for the Argentine international.
Di Maria off
Real Madrid are widely reported to have decided to sell Di Maria in the wake of signing James Rodriguez from Monaco. Manchester United and PSG are the two leading contenders, with United thought to be the frontrunners heading in to the final two weeks of the summer window.
The Old Trafford club are thought to be the most likely destination as PSG can only take Di Maria on a season-long loan for the time being, unless they sell a player worth a roughly equivalent value.
Financial Fair Play regulations stipulate that, having signed David Luiz from Chelsea for €50m, they must balance their books. That means they could only negotiate a loan with an option to buy next summer, while Real Madrid are keen to sell outright now.
United need additions
That means a £50m move to United is inching closer to completion as the transfer deadline nears, with Carlo Ancelotti preferring new signings Rodriguez and Toni Kroos in the middle.
United have already reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Marcos Rojo, with the Argentine international set to undergo a medical and agree personal terms.
Di Maria played alongside Rojo as Argentina reached the World Cup final only to lose 1-0 to Germany in extra-time.
Sergio Ramos has also appealed to Perez to keep Di Maria at the club, but it's Ronaldo who holds the most influence at the Bernabeu. The Portuguese international left the Super Cup final at half time with a back injury last night, as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1 draw.
Rodriguez came off the bench to score, while Di Maria also came on in the 77th minute to a rapturous applause from the home crowd. He's clearly still a fan favourite.
