Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are ready to give Daniel Agger an escape route from Anfield this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Agger is already deemed surplus to requirements after the arrival of Dejan Lovren for £20 million from Southampton and Liverpool have also put Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure ahead in the pecking order.
The 29-year-old is said to have pleaded with manager Brendan Rodgers to let him leave Anfield this month and it seems the Northern Irishman will grant him his wish by accepting offers that come.
Godin to Bayern
Atletico currently have Bayern Munich lurking for their star defender Diego Godin, and a move for £27 million seems imminent. Diego Simeone doesn’t want to be held ransom to any deals on the last day of the transfer window if Godin leaves, but wants to move quickly to find a replacement.
The Danish international Agger provides the perfect option and was also excluded from the team in the opening day clash with Southampton, hence his future at Liverpool remains a concern.
Barcelona move collapsed
Agger was on Barcelona’s shortlist before they signed Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal. Arsene Wenger admitted a few days back that he wants a centre-back at Emirates Stadium, and the Liverpool man is a proven option.
In a career spanning over a decade at Liverpool, Agger has made 232 appearances in all competitions, as well as having accrued 64 caps for Denmark.
Godin transfer crucial for Agger
The Denmark captain is hell bent on leaving The Reds and is open to move to Arsenal or Atletico, but any potential move to the Spanish champions will depend on the outcome of the Godin situation at the Vicente Calderon.
