Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Radamel Falcao, according to reports in France.
Le 10 Sport claims this evening that a move to Merseyside is now gathering pace, and that the Reds have convinced the player that they are the best option in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers has already made a number of significant signings this summer, with Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Rickie Lambert three of the attack-minded additions in the summer transfer window.
But, despite spending over £100million in the market already, the Liverpool boss revealed after their opening day Premier League victory that they were still looking to strengthen in the final fortnight of the window.
Replacing Luis Suarez remains a significant task for the Reds, and after receiving close to €81million for the Uruguayan forward, the Anfield outfit have had funds coming in as well as going out over the last couple of months.
Falcao, valued at £35million, would not come cheap, but Liverpool are being linked with a one-year loan deal with the option to buy. And, the French publication suggests that the English side can afford the Colombian’s wages as speculation over a move grows stronger.
Real Madrid have also been strongly-linked with a move for Falcao, and are another club to spend big already this summer.
Indeed, James Rodriguez moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from AS Monaco, whilst Keylor Navas and Toni Kroos have also joined the La Liga giants as Carlo Ancelotti strengthened his side once again.
They were thought to be a preference for 28-year-old, although other clubs from the English top flight - including Manchester United and Manchester City - have also been linked in the transfer window.
Liverpool fans are sure to be sceptical about the speculation over a move for Falcao, and until Rodgers or the club confirm their interest in the player, it's difficult to tell whether this move is actually going to take place.
With Champions League football on the table, the Reds have a legitimate chance of bringing the superstar to the club, and they are probably a big-name short of really challenging among the elite this season.
Falcao could be that superstar, given the situation unfolding at the Ligue 1 club, and Liverpool appear to be well-placed to make things happen if the opportunity becomes available over the coming days.
