Floyd Mayweather is one of the most talked about boxers right now because of his dominance. And even though he is set to fight Marcos Maidana in a rematch battle on September 13th, fans around the globe are still wondering who he will face next year.
Such is the dominance of Mayweather, even an eagerly anticipated rematch against Maidana is expected to go his way. Therefore, fans of Mayweather's across the globe are eager to find out who he will be dominating next May.
Fight with Khan on?
One name that has been bandied around for a while now is British fighter Amir Khan. The boxer is one of the most entertaining athletes in the world, having both the ability to topple any opponent and lose to any at the same time.
A fight between Khan and Mayweather would certainly extend the latter's box office domination, with Floyd enjoying the delight of being the highest paid athlete in the world at the moment.
Quite a lot of media reports still question whether the fight will actually happen. But this week fans were given hope when the Daily Star published a report that suggested the fight could be a lot closer to being sorted than we think.
"BOOKIES are taking bets on Amir Khan's highly-anticipated bout with Floyd Mayweather giving boxing fans the biggest hope yet that the fight WILL be going ahead," the paper confirmed.
So is this really the biggest sign that Khan v Mayweather is going to happen? Maybe so, the bookies always win remember.
One thing's for sure. This latest move means that boxing fans will see Mayweather and Khan become the talk of the town in betting circles across the globe in the coming months.
Khan's next fight
Amir Khan will almost certainly have a fight before a possible showdown with Mayweather next May.
Initial reports this year had suggested that Khan would be Mayweather's opponent in September, but Khan was ruled out of that opportunity because of his commitments to Ramadan.
Khan's next fight is due to be announced soon, but a spokesman for the British spokesman remained coy about his plans.
"The team and Amir are due to announce his next fight in the upcoming couple of weeks. We have nothing else to say on the matter at this moment in time."
