Usain Bolt claims he is prepared to call Louis van Gaal and offer his services to Manchester United if the club are unable to win their second Premier League fixture of the season against Sunderland this weekend.
Manchester United began the Van Gaal era impressively in pre-season, winning all six of their encounters, but were defeated in the opening competitive game under their new manager, with Swansea triumphant at Old Trafford last Saturday.
Van Gaal’s side will at least be buoyed by the arrival of Marcos Rojo for the meeting with Sunderland and, with any luck, will be further reinforced by the time they face Burnley in their following outing.
Angel di Maria, Arturo Vidal, Daley Blind - all players linked - could be in that Manchester United squad that travels to Turf Moor and, if Bolt gets his way, even he might be included against the newly-promoted club.
“I haven't talked to [Van Gaal] yet,” Bolt said. “He lost the first game so I'm giving him some time and I'll wait to see if he does any better on Sunday. But if he doesn't I'll probably need to give him a call.
He added: “I definitely want to try [a trial at Manchester United]. So hopefully I'll do a few trials and see if I'll be any good.”

Areas to reinforce
Van Gaal will, of course, have more pressing concerns than to discuss tactics with Bolt given the desperate need for new additions before the transfer window closes in less than two weeks.
While the acquisitions of Luke Shaw and Rojo ensure the departure of Patrice Evra is covered for, the club still require a recognised centre-back to soften the significant blow left by the exits of both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Mats Hummels, Thomas Vermaelen and Mehdi Benatia have all been mentioned as targets, but it would appear Van Gaal is running out of candidates to join the central defenders currently at his disposal.
Also needed is an all-action midfielder to slot in alongside Ander Herrera, with vice-captain Darren Fletcher currently the only fit and available player for this position.
