The Oakland Raiders have fallen on difficult times over the past few years and it seems that NFL players have taken note. When polled by ESPN, the Raiders were the team that most NFL players would be least interested in playing for.
Polling current NFL talent, the Worldwide Leader asked the following fill-in-the-blank question: "The only way i'd play for _____ is if they doubled my salary"
It was the Raiders that were the most common answer given. Not something that fans of the team would be too happy to hear with regards to trying to bring players in at free agency time and the other implications that it has.
That wasn’t the only question posed by ESPN, but it might have been one of the most polarizing.
No reasons were given as to why 23 percent of NFL players polled said they’d prefer not to play for the Oakland Raiders though one of the biggest is likely the recent struggles which attribute to NFL players preferring to play elsewhere.
Along with that, there is also the issue of playing in a very old stadium. Oh and you can't forget the fact that a lot of NFL players tell their family not to come and watch them when they play in Oakland because of the historical violence of the fans. Yep that would do it too.
The relocation factor would certainly not help. No player wants to voluntarily put themselves in a position to have to deal with moving and given the rumours surrounding the franchise, it’s understandable as to why that would be a concern.
The numbers speak for themselves here. A quarter of all players in the NFL say they pretty much would hate to be an Oakland Raider. That speaks volumes.
