AC Milan are ready to make a formal offer for AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, as they search for a Mario Balotelli replacement, according to the Express.
The Italian striker is on the brink of completing his move to Premier League outfit Liverpool, after the two sides agreed a deal worth £16million, and with Balotelli now in England to complete the deal, Milan's quest for a new striker has already begun.
Milan want upgrade on Balotelli
Initial reports have linked the Serie A side with a move for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez, but officials at the San Siro want to aim higher and want to bring in a big-name player, with Falcao at the top of their list.
The Colombian striker has been linked with a move away from France this Summer after apparently growing tired of the lack of competition in the league, and despite being linked with several clubs around Europe, Milan are confident that they can strike a deal with the 28-year-old.
Falcao monitored by several club
Falcao has been monitored all summer by Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but now that Balotelli is on his way to Anfield, AC Milan are also showing interest in the striker, who could be on his way out on a season-long loan.
Before making a formal offer for Balotelli, Brendan Rodgers was contemplating making a £12m offer to Monaco to try and land Falcao on loan for the season, but after being told they had no chance in landing the Colombian, they turned their attentions to Balotelli.
With that deal set to be announced and finalised next week, Milan are working on finding a suitable replacement, and currently they have two names on their list.
Milan also keen on Martinez
Falcao from Monaco is their main target, but as a back-up plan, they are also monitoring FC Porto's, Jackson Martinez, who has also been linked with a big-time Summer move, with Chelsea and Arsenal previously interested.
Both strikers have impressive scoring-ratios, and both would be welcome at the San Siro for the new season.
It's believed Milan will wait until Balotelli has officially left before they make a move for a replacement.
