Angel di Maria is “100%” sure he is leaving Real Madrid and is well on the way to agreeing personal terms with Manchester United ahead of a potential €65million transfer.
According to Marca, the Argentina international realised beyond all doubt that he was on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu club when Carlo Ancelotti dropped him from the squad for the Spanish Super Cup loss to Atletico Madrid and told him he did not even need to travel with the squad.
Not happy with Ancelotti
The Spanish newspaper said he and Sami Khedira, who received the same treatment, were ‘visibly upset’ after being told they were surplus to requirements – news that will give Premier League giants Manchester United great encouragement.
Louis van Gaal has openly admitted he needs new signings before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 at 11pm and one of the most heavily linked has been Di Maria.
Old Trafford bound?
Now it appears as though he is heading to Old Trafford and the Marca report claims that talks over personal terms between the Red Devils’ officials and Di Maria’s camp are well advanced and that the Premier League side are readying an offer as large as €65milllion to secure his signing.
Ancelotti insisted after the 1-0 defeat to Atletico, which saw them lose the Super Cup 2-1 on aggregate, that he had left De Maria out for tactical reasons and not because he was leaving.
"It was a technical decision not to play Di Maria. I did not need him today,” he said.
Manchester United were very disappointing in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2014/15 season, going down to 2-1 to Swansea City at Old Trafford. Acquiring the services of Di Maria would be a huge boost in light of that defeat, as he was arguably Real Madrid’s most impressive player in the run to Champions League gory last season.
