Reports that Manchester United have agreed an £18 million deal with Ajax for Daley Blind are wide of the mark, according to the player's agent.
The utility player has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer after impressing for Louis van Gaal's Holland at the World Cup. However, Rob Jansen, who represents Blind, says no contact has been made.
He told talkSPORT: “At this moment Manchester United have not been in touch with me or Ajax about Daley and I’m not sitting here waiting for the call."
There had been claims that Manchester United scouts were present during Ajax's weekend clash with PSV Eindhoven with further reports claiming a deal had been struck. The 24-year-old, who can play in midfield, centre-back or on the flanks, was seen as an elegant solution to several of Van Gaal's problems.
However, if Jansen's comments prove to be true, it suggests that Van Gaal is not planning on making a move for the 24-year-old in this transfer window. The Red Devils instead appear to be chasing a big money move for Arturo Vidal.
Juventus want as much as £34 million for Vidal, representing another massive outlay for Manchester United, who are close to sealing a British transfer record deal for Angel Di Maria. If a deal for Vidal fails, Blind could come onto Van Gaal's radar.
De Boer confident
Ajax manager Frank de Boer also gave an indication that Blind would not be moving to Old Trafford this summer. He admitted that Ajax would be ready to sell for the right price, but does not think Manchester United will move in the closing stages of the transfer window.
De Boer is quoted in the same report as saying: "We all know that if there is a certain amount on the table we cannot refuse. Then we'll wish him all the best.
"But I have not heard anything about it, so I am assuming that he still stays for a year. I think it's best for him, but on the other hand, the temptation is there if such a big club comes."
De Jong bid
Another potential defensive midfielder signing for Manchester United is Nigel de Jong. The former Manchester City man has a special place in Van Gaal's heart and would be the cheapest of the three targets at around €8 million.
