Liverpool new boy Lazar Markovic has risked angering supporters of the Anfield club after admitting a secret love for Chelsea - who he supported as a boy.
The £20m signing from Benfica revealed that he used to look up to Gianfranco Zola, and modelled his game on the Blues legend during his imperious spell at Stamford Bridge.
"I followed Chelsea because I liked Gianfranco Zola," he said in an interview with The Sun. "But Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world."
Chelsea were actually linked with the Serbia international during his time playing for Partizan Belgrade, but the 20-year-old will now be hoping to showcase his talent after being snapped up by Liverpool this summer.
Markovic impressed on his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute against Manchester City on Monday night, but was unable to prevent Brendan Rodgers's side from losing 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
