Manchester United could offer Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa to Juventus in an attempt to land Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to The Independent.
The report has suggested that the Red Devils aren't willing to make a straight cash deal for the player's services because of worries over his fitness. And that could spell the end for Kagawa, who left the field of play in the early stages as United were humiliated 4-0 by League One outfit MK Dons last night.
United in need
Manchester United are in desperate need of adding another central-midfielder in this transfer window, despite having already purchased Spanish ace Ander Herrera earlier on this summer. United have had a major problem in the middle of the park over the last few years, with the likes of Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley, Anderson and Co. all proving far too inconsistent.
Vidal, on the other hand, represents the world-class addition United fans crave in the midfield department. The Chilean, who starred at this summer's World Cup, has also proven his credentials at Juventus in recent time.
The Juventus superstar, who has been rated by the same report at €40 million, appears to be exactly the type of midfielder United need, with the club extremely light in that department. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Red Devils can secure the player's signature before the end of this transfer window.
It appears, then, that the potential arrival of Vidal could spell the end of Kagawa's Old Trafford career. In truth, the playmaker has never really adjusted to life at the Theatre of Dreams, and has struggled to make an impression at the club.
At his former side, Borussia Dortmund, Kagawa was the star man, playing a key role behind now Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. At Old Trafford, however, the Japanese ace has been shipped out on the left hand side on a number of occasions, with United possessing a number of fine players in the No.10 position.
With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj all at Old Trafford, it's no surprise that United are set to offload Kagawa before the close of the window. It's not yet certain as to whether Juventus would take Kagawa in a deal for Vidal, but he is in need of resurrecting his career.
