Manchester United have tentatively reached an agreement with Arturo Vidal's agent after Fernando Felicevich arrived in Manchester for talks.
According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Chilean international is set to earn €8m a season (€153,000-a-week) for five years. The Old Trafford club have wasted little time in moving for Vidal after clinching the signing of Angel Di Maria.
Agent in Manchester
Vidal's agent, Felicevich, was in Manchester on Tuesday for discussions with United officials while the midfielder, often receptive to fans requesting autographs, left Juve's training without a word.
United are ready to offer more than the €42m they bid the first time despite fears over Vidal's lingering knee complaint. The Chilean international rushed back from surgery for the World Cup, but was not at 100 per cent.
He can't come soon enough though, for a United squad struggling for performances and results. A 4-0 humiliation to third tier MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening followed an away draw to Sunderland in the Premier League and an opening day home defeat to Swansea.
Although many of the club's first-team did not feature against the Dons, the manner of the defeat was still hugely embarrassing for Louis Van Gaal. The Dutchman insisted afterwards that he was 'not shocked' by the scoreline, but in truth, it was a truly unbelievable performance.
Van Gaal reaction
Poor performances all round
Senior players like Jonny Evans, Danny Welbeck, Anderson and Javier Hernandez did their first-team chances little good with lacklustre performances. And the club's young stars looked some way short of making an impact on Van Gaal's plans, in the immediate future at least.
The shocking loss followed the announcement of the Di Maria signing, which reportedly broke the British transfer record.
With less than a week of the transfer window left, United are clearly working hard to reach a breakthrough on the Vidal deal next, a transfer that has dragged on since the end of the World Cup.
