Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar could play a key role in a potential deal to bring versatile Dutch star Daley Blind to Old Trafford.
This has been reported by the Express, who have stated that Van der Sar, who is on the board at Ajax, was spotted heading out of United's Carrington training facility yesterday. Van der Sar, of course, will have a great relationship with the United hierarchy, having spent a fine spell at Old Trafford before retiring in 2011.
It appears, then, that United boss Louis van Gaal could now add Blind to his ranks, having already landed Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria in this transfer window.
The Di Maria deal, which was struck before Manchester United's humiliating 4-0 defeat to MK Dons last night, took the Red Devils' summer spending to well over £100 million, with Van Gaal seemingly still intent on adding to his squad before the close of the window.
United fans will be hoping that all of their summer signings can play a key role over the course of the season after a nightmare start to the campaign.
Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping the club can tie up a deal to bring Blind to the club, as the player can play in a number of roles. As well as being able to fill in at left-back, the Dutchman, who starred under Louis van Gaal at this summer's World Cup, can also play at centre-half and as a holding midfielder.
And, in truth, United are in need of improvement in all three positions. At left-back, despite having already purchased Luke Shaw, United are short of options following the departures of Patrice Evra and Alex Buttner.
At centre-half, meanwhile, United have landed Argentine ace Marco Rojo, but have lost the experienced duo of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. The Red Devils are also crying out for a midfielder, with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini and Co. proving far too inconsistent. Blind, then, would only help United in these areas, as Van Gaal looks to improve his options.
