Manchester United are focussed on signing Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal after pulling out of the race to sign Juan Cuadrado.
This has been reported by the Daily Star, who have suggested that the Red Devils could meet Vidal's £40 million asking price before the close of this summer's transfer window.
It appears, then, that United are no longer interested in Cuadrado, with the report suggesting that the Colombian star could now stay at Italian outfit Fiorentina after Spanish giants Barcelona also dropped their interest in him.
It's not surprising that the Red Devils have pulled out of the race to sign the Serie A star after they landed Argentine superstar Angel di Maria from Real Madrid last night. The forward, who arrived at Old Trafford in a club record deal, looks set to play a key role at Old Trafford.
United fans will now be hoping that Van Gaal strengthens in other areas of his squad after the Dutch coach watched his side suffer a humiliating 4-0 defeat to the MK Dons last night.
And Vidal certainly represents the tough tackling, box-to-box midfielder that the Red Devils are in desperate need of. His record in the Serie A is a fine one, and United need someone to control things in the middle of the park.
The Red Devils have struggled in that department for some time now, with the likes of Darren Fletcher, Marouane Fellaini, Anderson and Co. all struggling for form. The club have invested in Spanish ace Ander Herrera, whilst Michael Carrick is currently out on the sidelines with a long term injury.
The same report has suggested, however, that United cold target Nigel De Jong or Fredy Guarin if they fail to land the Juventus superstar this week.
Despite having already spent well over £100 million on four new faces this summer, it's not surprising that United are still in the market for new additions following a disastrous start to this season.
Van Gaal is still without a win in a competitive game for the Red Devils, with the club only managing one point from their opening two Premier League fixtures. United fell to an all-time low last night, however, as they crashed out of the League Cup at the hands of the MK Dons.
