Premier league giants Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow to their title aspirations after Diego Costa pulled up in training due to a hamstring injury, according to The Guardian.

The severeness of the injury is still unknown but the striker could be sidelined for four to six weeks. Chelsea have so far refrained from disclosing how long they could be without their primary striker, until Costa undergoes further tests at Cobham.

Costa on target right from start

Jose Mourinho has hailed the influence of Costa in the squad, referring to him as one of the best forwards in world football today. The 25-year-old talisman hasn’t disappointed his manager and has already found the back of the net twice in as many games for Chelsea.

The Blues have a tough round of fixtures coming up as they face Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park. After that they are at home to Swansea, away at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City and then host Aston Villa and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

If Costa is not available Mourinho has to turn to Didier Drogba or Fernando Torres. With the news of Torres joining AC Milan before the transfer window closes this summer gaining intensity, Chelsea could look into the market to widen their options.

Strikers available in transfer market

Roma’s Mattia Destro and Monaco striker Radamel Falcao are both available. While Destro is open to a move for around £20 million ,Falcao could switch to Premier League initially on a loan fee of £20 million with an option to buy next season.

Mourinho is an admirer to the Colombian and might try to get him on board at Chelsea as both The Special One and Falcao have the same agent, Jorge Mendes.

Torres however still has two years to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge and although he is ready to join AC Milan, it's said he is not willing to take a pay cut on his £9 million-per-year wages, which could prove a stumbling block for the Serie A side. If Torres joins Filippo Inzaghi’s side on loan Chelsea have made it clear they will not pay any fee for wages for the Spaniard when he is playing for a different club.

The San Siro outfit have also made a loan bid for Marco van Ginkel and are optimistic the deal will go through.
