Every single time a new champion is crowned in the WWE; fans are always the first to voice their opinions on whether they’re happy or not regarding the new champion, or if the new champion deserves to hold a championship title.
Sometimes the WWE do make mistakes in handing a championship over to a superstar who may not be ready for such a big task, whereas sometimes booking errors have a major impact in someone capturing or dropping the titles regardless of the fans reactions, such as Dolph Ziggler’s stint as World Heavyweight Champion.
Even today, there are fans who will argue that a certain superstar my not deserve to be champion but a different superstar or diva does, the most recent and popular example being Brock Lesnar where fans argue a part-timer like The Beast Incarnate shouldn’t hold the WWE’s biggest prize.
If you want a legitimate champion, he’s the man. But what about the rest of the championships? Are the correct superstars and divas holding the championships? In the build up to the Night of Champions pay-per-view where every title should be on the line, continue reading to see who I believe should hold the championship titles in the WWE.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Brock Lesnar
There is no question about it, if you don’t want John Cena as your WWE World Heavyweight Champion then you need the man that conquered The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, he is a legitimate champion.
There’s no gimmick surrounding Lesnar, he just turns up and destroys everyone who is standing in front of him. The championship does change hands too often, that is one massive negative about the titles and is why they lost prestige, because nowadays anyone can hold the gold after a couple of months of success.
Lesnar has dominated from day one, he won’t drop the gold easy and that’s exactly what kind of superstar needs to hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Towards or at WrestleMania it is understandable that Lesnar will need to drop the gold, again it needs to be someone who has what it takes to become champion and become champion for a long time not simply a couple of months before being forgotten about again, that will only hurt Lesnar and the legitimacy of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
NXT Champion – Sami Zayn
Right now Adrian Neville is the NXT Champion and has been a very successful champion at that; he hasn’t put a foot wrong and there’s no solid reason as to why Neville shouldn’t be champion. He has it all, he’s different to your typical superstar because of the Geordie accent, his look, his build and of course his wrestling style is dangerously entertaining.
The only reason Sami Zayn should be NXT Champion is because he is the second biggest star on NXT after Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn becoming champion allows Adrian Neville to move to the main roster and be number one high-flier there. NXT will miss Adrian Neville and what he brings, but it only makes the main roster that much more valuable. Sami Zayn is a fantastic replacement, over with the fans every single week, one of the greatest wrestlers in the company today and a likeable superstar.
Intercontinental Champion – Bad News Barrett
Right now Dolph Ziggler is holding the Intercontinental Championship after dethroning The Miz, but I doubt Dolph Ziggler will be champion in early 2015. As entertaining as he is and as much as the fans love him, Bad News Barrett needs to become the champion as soon as he makes his return to the ring.
Dolph Ziggler is a good champion right now, I would have The Miz eventually defeat him if he is still in the title picture by the time Barrett returns. The fans will still be behind Barrett and what better way to become the impressive champion he was before his injury, by smashing a Bullhammer elbow into the money maker? Brilliant on the microphone, gets a reaction out of the audience whether he is a heel or a face and is great in the ring, a brilliant champion who has been unlucky with injuries.

United States Champion – Rusev
In my opinion, Sheamus hasn’t been a great United States Champion. He is a strong brawler and is great in the ring, but sometimes you forget he is even a United States Champion. This wasn’t the ‘step up’ the WWE would have wanted after Dean Ambrose not being a fighting champion, if they want a fighting champion then look no further than someone who can easily hold the championship for months on end, Rusev.
Rusev has the advantage of having Lana in his corner, much like Lesnar has Paul Heyman in his. This allows Lana to make sure Rusev gets so much heat from the fans even as United States Champion. Picture Rusev and Lana ridiculing the United States of America, only for Rusev to hold the championship itself? A massive slap in the face of the WWE Universe and the USA; the perfect way to get heat from the audience which could make Rusev an incredible heel champion.
Divas Champion – Paige
Paige needs to remain as Champion, especially if the rumours surrounding AJ Lee’s departure are true. With age on her side and so much potential to fill, she has all the time in the world to become one of the greatest divas to compete in the WWE.
Keeping her as champion in a feud with AJ Lee is fantastic experience for the young Paige, getting experience as champion now will bode well for her in the future when will potentially become a dominating champion in years to come.
NXT Women’s Champion – Charlotte
Even though she is ready for the main roster, I think Charlotte should stay on NXT for a little while longer but only if she remains the NXT Women’s Champion. If she drops it to Bayley then she needs to jump to the main roster. Nevertheless Charlotte is a very good in-ring worker, backed up by the fact that she is a Flair she could have a very good career in front of her.
She needs to remain as champion so she looks a threat to the remainder of the divas on the main roster, more experience inside the ring and as a champion will be good for us all, transitioning to the main roster is where she can impress the fans and not having to endure Eva Marie in the ring will be wonderful.
NXT Tag Team Champions – The Legionnaires
The Ascension have been incredible champions in the WWE; the situation is similar to Adrian Neville. They haven’t put a foot wrong and the main roster needs The Ascension, is it as simple as that; that’s why they need to drop the NXT Tag Team Championships. As exciting as Kalisto and Sin Cara would be as tag team champions, Kalisto should also be called up to the main roster, so a heel tag team holding the belts would be good.
The Legionnares should be the NXT Tag Team Champions, they are already in an entertaining feud with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady so by throwing the NXT Tag Team Championships into the mix only makes the feud that much better. The team of Sylvester Lefort and Marcos Louis have great chemistry as a team, they have the look, the natural French accents and their attitude make them an entertaining and fresh team; they have the ability to become successful champions.
WWE Tag Team Champions – Erick Rowan and Luke Harper
Ever since the feud between The Wyatt Family and John Cena concluded, it’s safe to say that Erick Rowan and Luke Harper have just been hovering around the tag team division, picking up the odd win here and there but suffering a lot more losses which is exactly the thing that shouldn’t have happened.
As impressive as The Usos have been in the past few months, they need to drop the championships to Erick Rowan and Luke Harper. They are due a championship run and it will bring back the fear factor surrounding The Wyatt Family, this way Bray Wyatt won’t even need a championship to stay as popular as he is, whereas Harper and Rowan will need them to be taken as a serious team once more.
