Manchester United closing in on capture of Fosu Mensah

Published 1 Comments

The appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss was expected to instigate the arrival of a number of Dutch internationals to Old Trafford.

As of yet the Red Devils manager has failed to bring in any players from his home nation, but it has been reported that Dutch youngster Timothy Fosu Mensah is close to signing.

Mensah at United

According to the Daily Mail the 16-year-old defender was at United’s Carrington training ground yesterday ahead of a move which will cost an initial £300,000 in compensation. Fosu Mensah is thought to have caught the attention of United coaches during Ajax’s AEGON Future Cup tournament in April.

The defender has also caught the attention of bitter rivals Manchester City and Italian giants Inter Milan. The arrival of Fosu Mensah to United will be the latest signing in a huge summer spending spree at Old Trafford.

Breaking the record

The former Premier League champions broke the British transfer record with the signing of Angel di Maria who arrived from Real Madrid for £60 million. Van Gaal also spent big on left backs Luke Shaw and Marcus Rojo , meaning Mensah will become the third choice left-back at the club should he join as expected.
