North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham have made an enquiry over Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic, according to The Guardian.
The report has suggested that the Citizens are ready to let the centre-half leave on a permanent basis today as they look to cut their wage bill in order to land Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao.
Arsenal in need?
It appears, then, that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen even further in his back-line ahead of the close of the transfer window this evening. Having seen ex club captain Thomas Vermaelen depart for Barcelona, the north London outfit have already landed youngster Calum Chambers from Southampton this summer.
However, with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny the No.1 partnership at the Emirates, Nastasic may now be handed an opportunity to fight for a first team place in north London.
Arsenal may, however, have to battle their north London rivals Tottenham for the player's signature, with Spurs in need of improvement in the defensive area. The Lilywhites saw Michael Dawson depart the club last week, and look set to be active on this deadline day.
And it appears that Spurs could in fact be in the driving seat to sign Nastasic with the same report from the Guardian suggesting that Manchester City would prefer the centre-back to join Mauricio Pochettino's side over Arsenal.
The City centre-half, who is still only 21-years-old, has seen his opportunities limited at the Etihad in recent time. The likes of Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis have been Manuel Pellegrini's main partnership. And now, with Eliaquim Mangala having arrived at the Sky Blues, it appears that Nastasic will be moved even further down the pecking order at the club
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the likes of Arsenal or Tottenham can agree a deal with the highly rated Serbian today.
