Ashley Cole got off to a winning start with his new side Italian giants AS Roma as they beat Fiorentina 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Cole joined AS Roma from Chelsea this summer on a free transfer ending an eight year stay with the London side. The 33-year old began his professional career at Arsenal aged eighteen before making the move to West London. Throughout his proffesional career the veteran has represented England on the international stage as part of World Cup and European Championship sides.
Roma brought in the experienced left-back to help bolster their defence as they look to challenge Juventus in their dometic league. Juventus won the Scudetto last season comfortably, finishing 17 points ahead of Roma who finished in second place.
Cole came into the side to face Fiorentina as replacement for the inexperienced Dodo. Teammates Radja Nainggolan and former Arsenal striker Gervinho put their names on the scoresheet to help secure a victory at the Stadio Olimpico. Despite a nervy end to the game as the visitors pressed the home team's defence the hosts were able to remain solid earning them a hard fought victory.
When Ashley Cole signed for AS Roma this summer skeptics had their doubts as to whether he could adapt to life in Seria A. Those doubts were fueled by a team photo of Roma during pre-season in which Cole looked distinctively detatched from the rest of the squad.
AS Roma will be hoping to use all of Ashley Cole's fifteen years of professional experience that includes numerous World Cup matches and a Champions League winning campaign.
