Liverpool recorded a comfortable victory over Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham side this weekend.

New signing Mario Balotelli was always going to grab the headlines as he made his Liverpool debut, however, it was youngster Raheem Sterling that inspired the Red's to victory.

One of the match highlights was a 'Messi-esque' run on goal from Sterling. The winger used his low centre of gravity and quick feet to ghost past four defenders only to fluff his shot into the hands of the Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Rodger's joked with reporters after the game: “He dribbled through the Spurs defence like Ricky Villa, but his finish was more like Ricky Gervais!”

The tongue in cheek jibe comparing Sterling to Tottenham legend Ricky Villa and English funnyman Ricky Gervais will certainly raise a few laughs but whether Sterling will see the funny side is yet to be seen.

The youngster recorded another impressive performance into the third week of the Premier league season. Sterling hit the back of the net only eight minutes into the game before Steven Gerrard scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.

Liverpool new boy Alberto Moreno then stole the ball from Tottenham's Andros Townsend to begin a dazzling run that ended with the Spaniard planting the ball into the Spurs net to finish off a 3-0 victory.
