At the beginning of 2014 Randy Orton was on top of the world, he was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and main-evented WrestleMania XXX.
But ever since Daniel Bryan made Dave Batista submit to the YES! Lock, Randy Orton’s run as a top star in the company has come to a sudden halt. He didn’t play an integral part in the Evolution and Shield rivalry and it looks as if Seth Rollins has leapfrogged The Viper in being Triple H’s right hand man.
Obviously it’s similar to when Triple H took Orton under his wing but as Rollins continues to grow as a superstar, it is taking a toll on Orton’s career. Having not won a pay-per-view match since Elimination Chamber earlier this year and coming off second in his feuds, if Orton needs to become a threat again he needs to enter a feud which makes him look strong, impressive and most of all, dangerous.
The five feuds I think Orton could enter highlight that in order for Orton to be a big star in the company again, he just may need to turn face to get back on track.
This one could work both ways in all honesty, even though Bray Wyatt is a heel on paper, the reaction he receives from the fans week in, week out is incredible so Randy Orton could stay a heel in a potential Bray Wyatt feud. Bray Wyatt hasn’t enjoyed a great feud with Chris Jericho either, and he does have a lot more to chew on with Randy Orton, being the viper, the apex predator, the legend killer etc.
With enough depth in the Randy Orton character, a feud between the pair makes perfect sense, it will allow Bray Wyatt to get also get back on track and Randy Orton will need to become a much bigger danger than he already is, that’s exactly what the fans want from Orton; a potentially entertaining and creepy feud.
Randy Orton isn’t in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture right now, but there’s no saying he won’t be back in it before WrestleMania. We’re aware of the rumours surrounding Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns that the two will clash in Santa Clara in March of next year at WrestleMania for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Brock Lesnar probably won’t defend his title at every single event from now up until WrestleMania but he definitely will need to put it on the line on certain events.
Lesnar will face John Cena in a rematch at Night of Champions, if and when he defeats Cena Lesnar will need to move on to the next challenger and the safest bet is Randy Orton. He’s reliable when it comes to the championship picture and storyline-wise it does make sense, he is in line for a rematch for the title and might want to split from Triple H to get what he wants. Both the youngest champions at one stage, it is a match which the fans will definitely want to see, a beat taking on a viper has the potential to be a great feud and will certainly test both men.
- WWE: Who should hold the championships?
- Roman Reigns still the one to defeat Brock Lesnar
- Batista may not return to the WWE
This would mean Randy Orton does turn against Triple H and after so much enduring, Orton attacks Triple H. Right now it looks as if it won’t be happening any time soon as Triple H looks set to be entering a programme with Roman Reigns, but that means Orton continues to take a back seat with no other rivals in sight.
We know the work these two can do in a feud, taking it to a whole new level of personal and that’s the Randy Orton we all loved and would enjoy watching again.
Seth Rollins and Randy Orton have faced off before when Rollins was still a part of The Shield and we know they both work well inside the ring. All this feud means is that it allows Rollins to get another massive name under his belt and defeating the man that Triple H practically made over a decade ago would set a perfect starting point for the storyline.
This is a new feud for Orton, we’ve seen Orton and Cena battle it out time and time again and a Rollins feud is a new test for Orton and to see whether he truly can cut it as a face once more; attempting to defeat the man that created and destroyed The Shield.
If Batista is returning even for a couple of months, my personal preference would be a Batista and Randy Orton feud. We’ve seen the tension between the two previously and judging by the incredible success of Guardians of the Galaxy it looks as if this time round Batista will be welcomed by the fans because of his brilliant performance in the blockbuster movie.
This feud would allow Randy Orton to stay heel and finally we could possibly see Batista as a face once more; it just depends on whether the WWE want to take a risk with another Batista face return just in case the fans decide they don’t want to give The Animal another warm welcome. They’re both accustomed to each other’s style inside the ring, they have great chemistry so another feud between the two could be the best thing for Randy Orton right now.
