Manchester City defender Micah Richards is finally moving on from the Premier League champions after a 12 year stay, despite having been a regular in the title winning side of 2012.
Richards is set to complete his move to Italian side Fiorentina, with reports stating that it is initially on loan but with the opportunity to sign on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old had so much promise when coming through the England and Manchester City ranks, but has unfortunately fallen down the pecking order this year due to the signing of former Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna.
With Pablo Zabaleta the first-choice for this position, it seemed clear that Richards should have left Manchester City a while ago to help his international ambitions, although injuries have not helped.
Richards has still made almost 250 appearances for the Sky Blues but will be hoping to recapture his early promise for Fiorentina and prove he still has what it takes.
With Ashley Cole claiming English players were scared to move abroad will this signal more moves to foreign lands? Only time will tell but Richards will be the 24th English player to play for a Serie A club.
