Every NFL franchise compiles a 10-man practice squad to compete with their current roster throughout the regular season and the St. Louis Rams have just completed theirs, with the rather surprising omission of Michael Sam.

Michael Sam without a job

Sam the seventh-round draft pick by the Rams has yet to be picked off the waiver wire after being released by St. Louis, the defensive end being described as an 'effort player' who may be too one dimensional finds himself without a job for the new NFL season.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher met with Sam in person on Sunday, Fisher had explained that the team's practice squad would be determined by which positions the team might be thin at on the active roster, strictly for practice purposes.

The defensive end position for the Rams is one of their biggest strengths, a frightening front line which boasted depth along with incredible talent was an area that wasn't in dire need and may be the central reason to Sam finding himself left off the practice squad.

The men who made it

Eight members of the ten players selected by the Rams had been with the organisation throughout the pre-season and are very comfortable with the surroundings of the franchise.

Two of the team's draft picks who understand the Rams system have joined the practice squad, the names include quarterback Garrett Gilbert and safety Christian Bryant.

The two members who have not been with the Rams through the pre-season are linebacker Denicos Allen who was with the Carolina Panthers and Kevin Reddick who is also a linebacker from the New Orleans Saints.

Denicos Allenis was an undrafted rookie who led Michigan State last season in tackles with 98, helping the Spartans win its first Rose Bowl since 1988, After being part of the Carolina Panthers set up, the Rams have snapped up the rookie for the practice squad.

Whilst Kevin Riddick is a 6 ft 1 linebacker product from the University of North Carolina, Riddick played last season for the New Orleans Saints but was not kept by the franchise and subsequently becomes a part of the Rams.
