Arsenal brought an end to a successful transfer window by signing Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, but it could have been so much better if Arsene Wenger managed to land one of five defensive targets as well.
According to The Daily Express, the Gunners entered last minute talks for five different defensive players but failed to agree a deal before the window slammed shut.
With only three recognised centre-backs in the squad, Arsenal fans were expecting defensive cover more than they were a new striker, but Wenger failed in his bid to reinforce his back line.
Instead, efforts were focussed solely on bringing Welbeck to the Emirates Stadium, which has caused a massive split in opinion amongst the Arsenal faithful.
