Normal service was resumed by Marc Marquez at Silverstone after Dani Pedrosa won the Czech Republic Grand Prix in Brno two weeks ago. Marquez took his 11th victory of the season in his pursuit to become World Champion once again.
Marquez has an 89 point lead over his Spanish rival Jorge Lorenzo with seven races to go in this years championship.
Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi completed the podium positions.
Marquez forced to work for win
Marquez did not have the race all his own way. Despite starting from Pole Position, he was beaten to the first corner by Jorge Lorenzo. With eight laps to Marquez pulled a stunning move on Lorenzo around the Village complex, but the championship leader made a mistake at Stowe which handed the lead back to Jorge Lorenzo.
However, on the following lap Marquez went for the overtake again around the Village complex with Lorenzo trying to push him wide, but he eventually had to yield to Marquez who went on to claim his 11th victory.
Lorenzo and Marquez built up a large gap between the battle for third place with Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa.
Ducati rider proves too fast
Rossi overtook Dovizioso in the early stages of the Grand Prix but was unable to pull away from the Ducati rider. Dani Pedrosa was in close proximity behind the two riders and managed to overtake Dovizioso and mounted a strong challenge for third place.
The three riders were all within a couple of tenths of each other throughout the whole race, but it was Rossi who came out on top with Pedrosa 4th and Dovizioso a strong 5th.
It was heartbreak for the British fans when they saw Bradley Smith who was running a solid 6th suffer technical problems. The Tech 3 team managed to send him out again but he was a few laps behind the leaders.
In two weeks time the riders head to San Marino at the Misano World Circuit on September 14.
