Manchester United might've taken the transfer window by storm after spending more than £150 million on bringing six new players to Old Trafford, but the truth remains that Louis van Gaal still missed out on a number of his top targets this summer.

The deadline day arrival of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao and the £59.7 million British record capture of Argentine winger Angel di Maria has given Red Devils fans plenty of reason to be optimistic about the season ahead. However, the Premier League giants' notable pulling power is not what it once was, as proved by the high-profile snubs they received during the close season.

Whilst the likes of Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind also accepted the prospect of a campaign in the Champions League wilderness, others were not so forgiving when Manchester United came calling.

Here GiveMeSport picks out three players that seemingly turned down the opportunity to link up with Van Gaal for the 2014/15 season, and will end up being the biggest disappointments that supporters rue not signing as the season progresses.

Click the 'begin slideshow' button below to see which world-class stars snubbed Manchester United, and have your say in the comment box provided if you think Louis van Gaal will renew interest in them again in January.
