Tom Carroll followed up his impressive display in Swansea's League Cup win over Rotherham in midweek by coming off the bench to make his Premier League bow for the Swans as they beat West Brom 3-0. Carroll came on for Jonjo Shelvey with six minutes left to play.

In the Championship, midfielder Alex Pritchard followed his parent clubmate by beating Rotherham as Brentford won 2-0 in Yorkshire. There was no such joy for Grant Hall, as his Birmingham side were comprehensively outplayed by Wigan as the Latics won 4-0.

Shaq Coulthirst was unable to change the game after coming on as a 64th minute substitute in Southend United's 2-0 defeat at Plymouth, while Kenneth McEvoy returned from injury to appear on the bench for Peterborough, although both he and Jordan Archer at Northampton remained unused for the duration of their respective teams' games.

MLS

In the MLS, Grant Ward returned to the starting line up as Chicago Fire returned to winning ways, beating FC Dallas by a single goal. Ward was withdrawn after an hour.

Lewis Holtby has joined Hamburg until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move, and with the loan window re-opening for football league sides this month more temporary outgoings from White Hart Lane can be expected for the likes of Ryan Mason, Milos Veljkovic, and Cristian Ceballos
