Jorge Mendes' broken relationship with Real Madrid could see Cristiano Ronaldo return to Manchester United.
This has been reported by The Express, who have suggested that Mendes - who is the agent of Ronaldo, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao - could look to engineer a move for Ronaldo back to the Red Devils because of the fallout with Madrid.
Di Maria letter
The same report has suggested that the Spanish giants were annoyed that Mendes allowed Di Maria's farewell letter to be published in Spanish daily Marca following his move to Old Trafford.
The Argentine ace - who joined the Red Devils for a club record fee of £59.7 million - suggested that he never wanted to leave the Bernabeu, and it appears that Real expected Mendes to help protect the club because of the rapport they had previously built up.
It's also been suggested that Florentino Perez decided against pursuing a move for Falcao because he wanted to take a stance against Medes. The Colombian superstar, of course, ended up at Old Trafford on a temporary deal, with many expecting a permanent deal for the forward to be struck between United and Monaco next summer.
The latest twist, however, is that Ronaldo could be on his way back to Manchester United in the future. The Portuguese ace revealed that he wanted to make a return to the club one day, and it appears that Mendes could look to engineer a move in the near future.
Ronaldo, who is the current World Player of the Year, is regarded as a club legend at Old Trafford following his spell at the club between 2003 and 2009. United fans would certainly welcome the Portuguese superstar back to Old Trafford with open arms, but it remains to be seen as to whether the club could pull off such a deal.
For now, though, Manchester United fans will have to make do with the likes of Falcao, Di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Adnan Januzaj in a star studded front line.
The Red Devils will be desperate to return to their ultimate best after a disastrous season last term and a dismal start to this campaign under Louis van Gaal.
